§ 27-15. Meters—Damage or destruction.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful and a violation of the City Code for any person, firm or entity to enclose, cover up, conceal, deface, destroy or damage any water meter connected to the water lines of the City of Dania Beach Municipal Water System.

    (b)

    In the event the city sees fit to turn off the water supply to a meter due to nonpayment of a bill or tampering with a meter, it shall be unlawful to tamper with the meter. In the event the water supply has been turned on or reinstated by someone other than the department, the meter will be pulled and a charge of the actual cost plus twenty (20) percent, or an amount as established by resolution of the city commission, whichever is greater, will be assessed and paid prior to reinstallation of the meter.

    (c)

    A presumption (not conclusive) shall exist that any of the acts which are unlawful under the provisions of subsections (a) and (b) as to a particular water meter were done by the person, firm or entity in whose name the account is carried on the records of the city concerning water service furnished through the particular meter.
